How about a hit counter for your index page?

Here are two free services that I've used  ... (you can find more sites by a
Google search)
...
http://easy-hit-counters.com
http://www.statcounter.com

The hit counter you chose will come in the form of html code, which you can
then copy & paste into your source code. Place the code at the bottom of
home / index page, just above where it says </body>,  to include it within
the main body of your website.

Statcounter offers you an invisible counter, if you so wish.

I strongly recommend that you copy and paste the html code onto a Word
document, to save this code, in case you accidentally erase the code from
your website (which happened to me recently).

How about a date & time clock?

There are free clocks available on websites such as this one ...

How about using Flickr?

How about setting up a blogsite?

Blogger offers free website space, which I used to create a Computer
Club blogsite for Nottm U3A. I put on this site a synopsis of my lecture
notes, and answers to members' queries, rather than using printed
handouts or emailing individuals. I encourage other members to contribute
to this site also, though not many members have done so.

Some time ago, I set up another blogsite showing members how to create
a blogsite of their own.  I've also created an index to the CC blogsite, which
you'll see on this webpage. You're welcome to use information from these
sites for educational purposes, provided that you acknowledge the author (JH).

How about adding a PDF file to your website?

This could be handy, if you wish to publish your current Newsletter online,
for your members to see (and possibly print out themselves).

Chris Heng, the Site Wizard, tells you how to do this in this article on his
website. Basically you place a copy of the PDF file in your website folder,
and on one of your webpages, you create a link to it. Change "Html files"
to "All files" in the relevant box. Then upload both the PDF file and the
webpage onto the internet.

When viewing the PDF file, the reader can change the magnification of the
page (and alter the size of the text), if he/she so wishes.

As an example of this, I've added the September issue of Hucknall U3A's
newsletter, which has a file size of 3.8MB. My thanks to Jim Spray of
Hucknall U3A for his very helpful advice on this subject.

How about adding music files?

This is a similar process to adding a PDF file. Have a look at a page on
my Lovely Music site, which has samples of music linked to it. There are
various types of music files ... the ones I've used are .wma ones, which are
playable on a Windows Media Player. The latter is available as a free
download from Microsoft ..... version 12 is now available for those of you
who've bought Windows 7. (I don't know if version 12 will work with
Windows Vista, as yet).

There are various audio-editors available ...
eg http://www.free-audio-editor.com
This supports .wma music files, but I don't know if you can convert other
file types to .wma files with this software.
