I've set up this website to give a helping hand to those of you who wish to design your own site. I'll give you some ideas on how to use Gimp, which is free photo-editing software, and Kompozer, which is free website-building software. There are lots of useful online articles and videos on how to use both Gimp & Kompozer. I recommend that you have a look at all the videos especially, as I'll be giving you only a brief outline of what to do. I'm not into creating websites with Flash or CSS styles, though I have used a little CSS in creating the link syle you can see in the links column. Peter Edge of Keyworth & District U3A has given me a lot of info on how to create a webpage using CSS and "divs" ... see the new page entitled "Using CSS". My Nottingham U3A colleague, Tony Jordan, has given me a lot more info on web design, with links to various helpful websites, which you can see on our Computer Club blogsite for 16 August 2009. I'm also very grateful for all the helpful advice I've received about using Picasa 3 and Gimp, from my colleagues, Brian Morgan and Dennis Apple. As regards photo-editing, if all you wish to do to your photos is to re-size them, have a look at a free program called PIXresizer .... more info on my page about Flickr. Some of you will be aware of the new U3A Site Builder website, which has helped 232 U3As create their own websites. It looks very good, if you don't mind using the same design as everyone else. The contact page on these sites for emailing purposes is excellent ... something you won't find on my website, unfortunately, as I don't know how to create one like this. So, before you continue looking at this website, have a look at this PDF file I've written about U3A Site Builder. For those of you who are feeling more adventurous, read on. :) |

| Since setting up this website, I have found a web design website with a similar name. This website is completely independent, and was set up on a non-profit basis by JH, to be used by members of the University of the Third Age. The U3A is an educational charity. |
